Barista News: Comings & Goings

Camila  (not pictured) is back in town and stopped by for Juliya and Adele's goodbye party.   Juliya has been doing some great graphics for us as well as being one of our awesome baristas.  Alas, school is very busy for someone aiming for law school.  You can see Amanda next to Juliya, and Doug Campbell at the side, trying to sneak out of the frame.

Adele has already graduated is going overseas.  She is leaving for West Africa via the Peace Corps.  Both Nathanial and Gloria were in the Peace Corps, back in the day, and Gloria brought along pages from her photo album.

To Market To Market

What, a book?  People were confused when To Market To Market showed up, but so many of you have told us about Nikki McClure's books.  We have her cards, her calendars (not till next fall!), so why not her book about farmers markets?

It's spring, the year round U-District Farmers Market is livening up as the sun starts peeking out, and To Market To Market seemed like just the thing you need sitting on your shelf next to your  Maritime NW Gardening Guide from Tilth or the latest issue of Edible Seattle.

I grew up with Robert McCloskey's books, One Morning in Maine, Make Way for Ducklings, Time of Wonder, and of course Blueberries for Sal.  Maybe "To Market To Market" is the book for the modern Northwest child.

15th Ave NE Construction - Cafe Hours Change

If you've come in on the weekend, you may have had your route changed by the construction on 15th Ave NE, if you haven't run into it already, 15th Ave NE is closed for construction Saturday and Sunday daytime until June!  What a hassle, but that street really needed some smoothing out.

While the construction is going on,  the espresso stand will be closed on the weekends.

We will have complementary drip coffee for our customers, and the two computers will still be available for you to drop in and check your email.

Shakespeare in the Snow, or maybe the Daffodils

 Hello from the cold! 

Bulldog barista Caitlin Rich has been very busy working on the costumes for upcoming UW Undergraduate Theater Society, production of Romeo & Juliet.   With a setting in a 1930's nightclub, which must have made the costuming really fun. 

Performances start Thursday, February 24th and run through Sunday, March 6th.  You can get tickets through Brown Paper.  Check back, there might be more photos.

U-District, Every December at the Grand Illusion Theater

Starts December 10th at the Grand Illusion Theater, an annual tradition for 40 years.  If you see Doug or Gloria, they might tell you stories of showing movies at the G.I., back in the day.

More Construction in the UDistrict: 15th Ave NE

SDOT just dropped by a flyer for their upcoming open house (UHeights, Room 209, Wednesday Dec 8, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm).

Reconstruction of 15th Ave NE from Pacific Ave NE to NE 50th St, starting in January.

Barista Dan R, Theater Schmeater, Pageant Play

DC & GS went to see morning barista Dan Reaume in Pageant Play and came back with a very enthusiastic review. It only runs one more weekend, and is at the intimate Theater Schmeater.

Theater Schmeater's website says "Set in the exotic world of Texas Beauty Pageants for 7 year olds and under...."

GS had a great time, and highly recommends it. Alas, only two more performances.
