The school bus of democracy
stuck in high gear,
out of control,
heading for the wall.
No driver.
Or too many drivers –
the school board,
miles away
from the screams
of the children,
debates
over which way
to go.
Hope: being a swift U-turn
upon the razor’s edge.
Charlie Mehrhoff has sent out little work in the past decade but has occasionally offered some words to The New Verse News.
