TINY GIANT STEPS

by The Bangkok Bards
Saknarin Chinayote & Charles Frederickson

WHAT can one person do
To improve Status Quo Vadis
Somehow making genuinely significant impact
Without looking back rewinding past

Enabling others we must first
Transform ourselves shed scaly glisten
Grown out of shrunken snakeskin
Non-venomous version of old self

Life recoiling from fire we
Just do it almost fearlessly
Heir-conditioned that flames singe flesh
Walking barefoot across smoldering coals

Destiny choice not chance reliant
Taking control of own Fate
Moment-to-moment daring to take risks
Ignoring distorted anti-clockwise time warp

Solo voice attuned to nature
Protecting endangered species eco-environment safeguards
Counterpoint harmonically interdependent rhythm contour
Unfinished symphony awaiting upbeat coda

WHY Just because we care
About out beloved offspring’s future
Ensuring hopeful legacy left behind
On borrowed interest loans un-repaid

NEW YEAR'S EVE

by Buff Whitman-Bradley

Wars bleed
From one year to the next
Greed takes no holiday
Poverty and desperation spread
Like black mold
Across the pages
Of the calendar
I see no reasons to believe
That the coming year
Will be any better
Than the last and
Likely it will be worse
Nevertheless at midnight
I stand outside
In the shivering blackness
And feel myself elated
Once more
By the ancient tableaux
Of winter constellations
Settled into their familiar places
Among the icy stars . . .

No sound no sign
No flash of light
No message from heaven
No harps or bells
But a moment of beauty
On a winter’s night
And an old pessimist’s blind hope
That all will be well

Buff Whitman-Bradley is the author of four books of poetry, b. eagle, poet; The Honey Philosophies; Realpolitik; and When Compasses Grow Old; and the chapbook, Everything Wakes Up! His poetry has appeared in many print and online journals. OH! CHRISTMAS TREE!

by Lynnie Gobeille

Rhode Island Holiday Tree: State To Leave 'Christmas' Out Of Lighting Ceremony-- Huffington Post

I live in the State of Rhode Island
A place governed by folks refusing to see –
That no matter -  what you call it
It’s still a Christmas tree.

The food pantry shelves are empty
Sandy’s “Homeless” remain in the cold
Let’s all hold hands, raise our voices together
Sing the story that needs to be told.

Flip the switch! Go ahead turn the lights on
Gaze at the beautiful Tree
You can call it whatever you want to
It’ll still mean:  HOPE : to me.

Lynnie Gobeille is passionate about poetry. She is one of the co-founders / editors of The Origami Poems Project, a world wide “free poetry event” based in Rhode Island . Her micro-chapbooks can be found there. Her work has been published in various journals and on-line poetry sites. Her mantra?  “We can change the world, one free poetry book at a time”.
